Socialised Health Care
Personally I think it’s a disgrace and an injustice to the 45+ million Americans who are unable to afford health care. In 2003 there were 8.4 million American children uninsured!! The National Coalition on Health Care reported that in 2003 27 million working americans could not afford health care benefits as their employer couldn’t afford the health care premium.
In a modern civilised society we should be extending the benefits of modern day health care to all, regardless of income. Yet again we see the level of one’s income defines the service they receive. I think this model fits a service provider which you use for pleasure – but surely not for those moments when you need urgent medical attention (especially for your child).
I was born and raised under socialised health care and I’ve been living in the USA for over 8 years. I’ve been able to see for myself the level of service provided by both systems. To be honest I couldn’t tell the difference from Emergency Room service (even though I’m paying through the nose for the USA ER!). I’m still treated the same (emergency need over the ‘first in first served’ mentality).
You will always hear people criticise the waiting times of the socialised health care. Take a look for yourself! The NHS (National Health Service) is very open about these kinds of statistics. Yet again – Emergency need takes priority over first in first served. But EVERYBODY and ANYBODY who lives in Britain is treated equal, no child is left behind! Oh – did I mention this also covers Dental!!!
If you’re worried about being treated equal then you can pay a monthly premium and join a private health care insurance program (such as BUPA). Yes – even under socialised health care you can still be an elitist!
