The great escape

T’was a beautiful day in Eagle Mountain, the sun was out and all the birds we singing, especially Cassy (Scott’s yellow budgie). I thought she might like to be outside and enjoy the company of the other birds feeding in our yard. So out she went and out I went… Well the wind got windier and and the rolling clouds rolled faster… and you can imagine what happened next. Yes – the wind pushed Cassy’s cage onto the ground and out she flew. Of course nobody was home to see this great escape in action – but Toby and Kristy were quick to find us to tell us the bad news.
Toby was the little reporter and told us all the details. Scott was devistated and I was too since I was the one who put her outside in the first place. Through Scott’s tears I told him it was my fault and Scott simply replied “it’s okay Daddy”. I felt so terrible to bring all this grief onto my little boy Scott that I asked him if he wanted to take a drive to our local Petsmart. To which he replied with a smile on is face, “a new pet Daddy?” and he started to pace. PetSmart were inviting and we purchased a new green budgie. The checkout lady asked Scott which name he had picked for his new pet. “Boob” he replied with a smile on his face, but I quickly added we’re still working on it (we later compromised with “Boo”).
Boo now sits in her new home with Scott protecting her, but still he wonders and looks out for his first childhood pet called Cassy. So if you ever see a yellow budgie flying around – please drop us an email and let Scotty know that his bird is alive and well and enjoying freedom.
I’m sorry Scotty…

I am so sorry to hear about Cassy, Scotty. I want to share with you a little poem, I wrote, about what happened on that day.

The yellow bird, alone she sat, Cassy was her name.
Out in the breeze, the wind did blow and strong it soon became.
It was not long, quite soon infact, the cage began to rock.
Cassy saw the danger coming and opened up the lock.

The door swung wide, this was her chance, she knew she must survive.
She hopped, then skipped, and spread her wings and flew to stay alive.

When looking down, the cage did fall, but Cassy was now free.
The first time she had viewed this world and all there was to see.

As Cassy flew, she stopped to think “What of my good friend Scott?”
“I must drop by to see him soon, as I like him quite a lot!”

Now Cassy meets all other birds, and tells them all to hurry.
To get some food, and say hello
To the great boy, Scott McMurray!

Just know that Cassy will be having fun ;-)

Thanks for the lovely Poem Jim, I can’t wait to read it to Scott.

Kristy and Scott attended our stake conference today and Scott decided to put pen to paper and say good-bye to his bird the best way he knew, by drawing. Kristy said the 1st page is smudge with his tears as he sobbed at his loss.

I had to do something with this gem of a memory and came up with a video eulogy. A tribute to Cassy McMurray. (4.7 mb)
