GPS Driving

We’ve just had the pleasure of having our friends over from England (Jim, Loz and their son Noah). They flew into Florida and drove all the way here in about 2 weeks, driving over 3,200 miles. What amazes me was the precision of their journey due to a TomTom gps navigation system, which Jim hooked into his iPAQ PocketPC.
This device is truely amazing. The PocketPC relayed the exact course and even gave audible prompts of “Turn right at the end of the road” etc… I would highly recommend this setup if you’re traveling in unknown places.

So I browsed eBay and bought all the needed stuff to make this work on my own laptop, only to find out that Microsoft’s Streets and Map 2005 software package is grossly out of date for Eagle Mountain. This was after I had already tried their 2004 product (which was also the same – no updates!!). How can they claim to have the most up to date maps (which forces them to release this product every year to keep current!!) yet do not keep up to date with highly developing areas… But then this is Microsoft – and what else should I expect anyway! But yet more of my hard earned money down the drain yet again!
