Antelope Island
We ventured to 1 of Utah’s 10 islands today, Antelope Island is the biggest of them all. It costs $8 per vehicle and is a host to a multitude of Brine Shrimp! I’ve never seen them so BIG before! I was going to take some home for my fish to eat! but I think the shrimp would have scared my fish! Apart from the sulphur smell, it wasn’t that bad. Your nose gets used to it after the initial onslaught! But pheeweeeeeee did we all smell on our drive home!
The island itself is beautiful, we only got to visit 1 beach! we still have the whole island to discover. There is a 6.5 mile hike which I can’t wait to tackle with Scott (as soon as he gets bigger).
They have a variety of wild animals, including buffalo … and of course – antelope!
All the 3 kids loved to play in the Great Salt Lake. Once you got used to the brine floating around your feet it wasn’t too bad. I couldn’t believe how much Alyson loved to wade in the water. She fell over about 3 times and Toby fell over (on purpose) about twice.
All in all it was a nice venture, one that I know will be a repeat. We still need to explore the rest of the island!
